Cedar Garden Planters
2X as thick with taller and longer boards, our planters raise the bar!
The base of our planter sits on 4x4 cedar posts and the frame is made of genuine western red (2x4) cedar. It is beautiful and durable. Most mass market-planters fall apart in a year or two. Ours should last a decade!
The bed that sits on this frame is exactly the same construction as our raised beds (that sit on soil). We use 2x6 cedar boards, which are twice as thick as most mass-market beds. We surface the exterior of the lumber to yield a furniture like finish, cut lap-joints to bind the corners, add a top cap and size trim, then use tons of screws to hold everything together. To add even more durability, we apply a food-grade sealer to the interior and a penetrating oil to the exterior. All planters are 36" tall. Planters that are 3' x 6' or larger have extra support leg(s) in the center
We're a small Plano-based business that makes premium, "furniture quality", planters for serious gardeners.
Premium Features in all our planters:
Genuine western red cedar, for lasting durability
Planter base: 4x4 cedar legs, frame and bottom are 2x4 boards.
Planter box: made the exact same way as our raised beds
Surfaced and sanded: to yield an a furniture-like exterior appearance.
No middle joints: Single-length boards means there are no middle joints to fail.
Lap Jointed corners: Think "Lincoln logs", they are two-way screwed, to lock the corners together.
Screws: We only use screws, no nails, including screwing the boards atop and then filling the holes.
Trims: Top cap and side trim keeps moisture out of the boards and shades the sides, to extend your beds' life
Sealed: Beds are sealed on the inside with a food safe sealer and with a penetrating oil on the exterior. This adds years to your beds's life
Rubber Pads: We place rubber padding on the bottom to keep water from "wicking" into the legs
Our planters are meant to last 7-10 years.
